Here’s an excerpt from book five, WAKING DREAM…

My head hurts.  And the bed – no, not the bed.  It’s too hard.  I’m on the floor.  How did I get there?  With difficulty, I open my eyes, and my headache becomes immediately worse.  What happened?

My face feels strange.  Wet and sticky.  I put a hand to my cheek, and it comes away bloody.  I was – where was I?  Somewhere outside, walking towards…

Towards Lydia’s house.  And then she drove up in her car.  She tried to run me over, I jumped out of the way and scratched my face up when I hit the ground.  And then I did the same thing to myself in real life while I was sleeping.  It was my cheek in the dream, too.  Bits of stone – she had paving stones leading up to her front porch, and that’s where I landed.  That’s where I cut myself.

This happened two years ago, too.  There was one dream in particular.  I was dreaming about being in jail.  I was handcuffed in the dream, and I fell down and hit my head.  When I woke up, I was lying on the floor in exactly the same position, with a splitting headache.  I did it to myself.

Just like now.  Which means – oh, God! – we can hurt each other.  Whatever we do to each other in the dream, we’ll do it to ourselves for real.  And I didn’t even think about using whatever appears in the dream.  I just assumed that since we couldn’t physically touch each other, there was no danger.  But if she’s driving a car, she doesn’t need to touch me directly.

Or if she’s got a gun in her dream – no, I don’t want to think about that.

You can find the set on Amazon (and elsewhere, too!)
